Fear Free Grooming
What exactly is Fear Free, one-on-one grooming? This means your pet receives personalized attention from start to finish, is guided kindly and patiently through the grooming process using gentle handling and positive reinforcement. This creates a bond and trust between the dog and the groomer.
Fear free dog grooming focuses on creating a calm and positive experience for pets during grooming sessions, minimizing stress and anxiety. The approach involves gentle handling, allowing the dog to acclimate to the grooming process at its own pace, using positive reinforcement like treats and praise. Fear free grooming professionals are trained to recognize signs of fear or discomfort, and adjust their techniques accordingly, ensuring dogs feel safe and secure. By prioritizing the pets emotional well-being, fear free grooming helps prevent negative associations with grooming, leading to a happier and healthier dog in the long run.

Shannon did the best grooming my dogs have ever had. It was there 1st time there and they loved the place. They were relaxed and she made them very welcome. Highly recommend, Shannon cares and does an awesome job.
My baby xena gets so excited when she hears it's time to go see shannon!!! She is always comfortable and happy while she is there. Unlike previous experiences. Shannon is always patient and listens to your concerns or comments.
Teddy our goldendoodle has a fear of groomers from past bad experiences. We are so lucky to have found Shannon and Pretty Little Paws. The love and patience provided to Teddy during his groom to help him overcome his fears is so commendable.
Meet Our Team
I became a certified groomer in 2008 and love every minute of it! Getting to work with animals and building unique bonds with each of them is so special to me. I love working at Pretty Little Paws, where one-on-one, fear-free grooming is rewarding. Outside of work, I’m a mom of two daughters who definitely keep me on my toes! I love that they share my love of animals. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Being part of Pretty Little Paws and caring for all the special dogs is truly fulfilling.
I have always loved working with animals. In the past, I have worked in doggie daycare, a pet boarding facility, a grooming salon as a bather, and in 2001 became a certified pet groomer. I became fascinated with all the education that grooming entails. I especially love the opportunity to work with so many different dogs and getting to know each one’s unique personality. When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my family and pets. I enjoy being a part of Pretty Little Paws and taking care of all the special dogs.
Hi, I'm Shannon Long, owner and operator of Pretty Little Paws. I am so excited to use my grooming expertise to provide a low stress, one on one experience for your pet.
I grew up in Troy, MO on a farm where my family raised Labrador Retrievers. My husband, Brandon, and I have lived and worked in O'Fallon, MO since 2005. We loved the hustle and bustle of city life, and with that came a natural transition from Large Breed to Small Breed dogs. We currently have 3 Chihuahuas - Mimi, Harry, and Ginny.
In 2005, I started a job as a Dog Bather, and instantly knew it would be a lifelong career. I attended Nash Academy of Animal Arts in 2007 where I was instructed by top educators in the industry. I am an AKC S.A.F.E. Certified groomer. Continuing to improve my craft lead me to join the fear free movement. This means I am committed to providing patience and understanding in a safe and calm environment. By focusing on one dog at a time, I can use my skill and experience to reduce stress and fear, making dogs more comfortable during the grooming process.
In addition to having an all consuming passion for dogs, I enjoy spending time with my family, the Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and collecting Polish Pottery.
I am truly grateful for all my loyal clients and I look forward to making new ones!
With over 15 years of experience in dog grooming, I’ve built my career around a deep love for animals and a special talent for working with dogs that others may find challenging. I began grooming in 2009 in Alberta, Canada, and quickly realized that my passion lies in caring for dogs with unique behavior needs. My approach is always kind, compassionate, and patient, ensuring that every dog feels comfortable and safe during their grooming session.
In 2018, I moved to St. Charles, where I continue to enjoy the joy of grooming while building strong relationships with both my furry clients and their owners. I consider it a privilege to work with such a diverse group of dogs and to be a part of their lives. When I’m not grooming, I enjoy spending time with my husband Eric and our French Bulldogs Penelope and Frankie.I love traveling back to Canada to spend time with my 3 adult children and our beloved grandchildren, Oliver and Rosie.
